Exposição coletiva na X-Casa
Exposição coletiva na pré-abertura da galeria X-casa
I was invited by the architect Urbano Iglesias, author of many tile panels in Rio's subway stations, to make a 3m x h3.6m (9.8ft x11.8ft) mosaic based in the statue of Nossa Senhora da Paz, located in the church in Ipanema neighborhood.
I was responsible for the execution and organization of the team to make the mosaic. The first stage of the mosaic was all done in the Atelier Codorna, a collective studio I shared and collaborated with other artists in Rua do Lavradio, downtown of Rio (Lapa)
For the execution of faces and hands, I invited Maria Emília Januzzi (whom I met when we took a muralism workshop in Joinville) who has beautiful works of mosaic faces. And She stayed working with me until the end of the application of the mosaic at the subway.
I had the help of Tahian Bhering to execute the background and coordinate who was helping on the day. In addition to having acted as a photographer and helped in the final application of the mosaic on site.
I wanted to thank Maria for her special help. I met her at the tile shop, buying tools and she came to the studio almost every day and became a great mosaic partner and friend. Also had the help of dear friends who exchanged mosaic class for their skillful hands: Ademar Britto, Guilherme Silva, Marina Ávila, Mariana Valente, Jacqueline Assis, Milton Neto, Anelize Tietz, Sheila Nascimento, Elisangela Pinto, Raphael Couto and Isaiah Yafi-Yafi. The application of the mosaic was done with my supervision and also the engineer Tonon and his assistant Fernando, executed by the super competent subway team (Consortium Line 4). The masons who worked with me da Rosa (José), José and Iraldo. José Francisco did an excellent grouting job, even mixing colors to match the background. The security team was very careful due to the scaffolding and safety and protection accessories.
I am very grateful to Adrianne Schreiner who indicated me as a contemporary mosaicist for Urban Iglesias. And I am grateful that Urbano trusted that I could deliver his project.
